Back To School: home sickness remedies for the teen leaving the nest

Posted on

It may still feel like summer, but (whether we like it or not) back-to-school is on the horizon. The start of a new school year is a milestone no matter what – but it’s especially significant for those who are leaving home for the first time to attend college or university.  Our Back to School Collection will always keep them connected to the place they call Home Sweet Home in moments of homesickness after they’ve left the nest.

I’m still a few years away from this milestone myself (thank goodness!), but I imagine it’s as nerve-wracking and momentus for the parents as it is for the kids.

If you’re in this boat, why not create something beautiful and meaningful to send to school with your child? A special piece of personalized jewelley is a great way to show your pride, mark the occasion, and provide a little reminder of home and family they can keep close while they’re away.

We can stamp the GPS coordinates of your home (or other location) on many of our pieces including our Juicy PendantPeel Pendant, Name Plate NecklaceLush Pendant, Marmalade Pendant,  Men’s Leather cuff – all of which are popular choices among teenagers and can be paired with most of our chains and leather cords to suit any taste or style.

Or, what about a series of perfectly-subtle Sweet Pendants or Petal Pendants with the initials of your family members on them?  Or maybe an inspirational word or phrase on a pendant to help when the going gets tough.

Leaving the nest is a big step, creating uncertainty and worry at times. Providing a word, be it your family name or a word that instantly connects them to family, will provide some inner peace in those anxious or homesick moments.

Whatever token you choose, it’s sure to be a great reminder of love, family bonds, and that – even though they may be carving their own path and expanding their wings – YOU will always be home.

Shop our BACK TO SCHOOL COLLECTION so they always remember that home doesn’t feel so far away after all.
